During one of the botanical field trips on the 1,800-sq.-km territory of Sagalassos, we discovered a very exceptional plant: the Aethionema thesifolia. This plant has never been found since 1948, perhaps not by chance the birth year of our excavation director. The spot, which we do not want to disclose publicly in order to protect the plant, still had some 30 specimens present. At the moment this is the only place on earth where the plant is known to have survived. One of the very few surviving specimens--at the only known location where it still grows--of Aethionema thesifolia.
